Doctor errors can lead to medical malpractice cases

Every human being is biologically unique. This is what causes one person to adversely react to a medication that may work perfectly fine for another person. This is why doctors in Maryland ask about allergies to medications. Adverse reactions to medications can be life threatening and, in some instances, can result in medical malpractice lawsuits.

A 54-year-old man injured his knee while playing basketball with his son. The man consulted a physician who told him that he had torn his meniscus. The gentleman with the injured knee had previously experienced life-threatening reactions to general anesthetics. The doctor had anesthesia administered to the man in preparation for performing the surgery, and the patient suffered an adverse reaction within minutes and lapsed into a coma. His family made the heart-wrenching decision to remove him from life support two weeks after the failed surgery.

The family brought a lawsuit against the doctor, and the suit claims that the surgeon was aware of the patient's sensitivity to general anesthesia. In addition, the suit claims that the diagnosis of a meniscus tear was wrong and that an MRI would have shown that, but one was never performed. The anesthesiologist is also named in the medical malpractice lawsuit.

People generally trust doctors to deliver the care needed to help them get better if they suffer an injury or illness. No one is perfect, and mistakes can happen, but when one loses a loved one in Maryland due to a mistake that may have been preventable, the loss can be overwhelming. There is no magic wand that can turn back time and undo the error, but a successful medical malpractice lawsuit can provide compensation for medical costs, final costs and other verifiable losses.
