Fatal motor vehicle accidents often tied to reckless driving

The causes of fatal car crashes are varied, and often there is more than one reason one may have happened. When one of those reasons is reckless driving, it can seem all the more tragic for families left to pick up the pieces. At least one family here in Maryland may be contending with this exact scenario, after a female passenger was killed in a head-on collision. Police say they have reason to suspect that this was one of the many motor vehicle accidents that could be blamed on reckless driving.

Authorities say that the crash happened on a recent weeknight. A pickup truck was driving west on a local road when a car driving behind it allegedly tried to pass it. Police say the area is a no passing zone and the car was conducting an illegal maneuver. Reports say that this is when the car struck another vehicle head-on in the oncoming lane of traffic.

First responders rushed to the scene to extract the victims from their respective vehicles, but one of the passengers in the car blamed for the crash died as a result of her injuries. Drivers of both vehicles were also injured and had to be taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. There is no word on whether police intend to file any criminal charges, though their investigation remains open for the time being.

The family of the woman who died, or the injured victim may feel compelled to hold the driver responsible even if the police decide not to press charges. They could file a claim in civil court which, if successful, could result in a judgment for monetary damages. This is an option available to many here in Maryland who have been impacted by motor vehicle accidents. Those who are interested in exploring the possibility may want to talk to an experienced personal injury attorney.
