motor vehicle accidents Archives

Is vehicle technology making us safer?

If you have shopped for a new vehicle in Maryland in the last couple of years, you might have seen vehicles that feature interesting new safety technologies. You might even have taken one of these vehicles for a test drive. The idea that technology can help people drive more safely and avoid accidents is certainly enticing. However, it is important for people to be educated about the true capabilities of these systems.

Fiery crash leads to manslaughter charges for Maryland man

Dashcam footage shows the scene of a horrific accident that happened in the Tribeca area of Manhattan in New York City, resulting in damage to multiple vehicles, several injuries, a life lost and a Maryland man in jail facing criminal charges.

Maryland sees increase in DUI deaths

When it comes to deaths caused by drunk drivers, even one is too many given that these incidents are completely preventable if only people would make the responsible choice to not drive after consuming alcohol. Unfortunately, that just does not seem like something that some drivers are willing to do.

Are hands-free cellular devices safe?

It is illegal to use a hand-held cellphone while driving in Maryland and in many other states across the country. In an attempt to comply with the law, you may have turned to using a hands-free cellular device while behind the wheel. These devices are marketed as being a safe alternative to traditional hand-held cellphones, as they eliminate the manual and visual distractions caused by the hand-held types. A study released by AAA, however, shows that hands-free cellphones may not be as safe as some people may think.

Collision sends one vehicle into group of students

When people in Maryland send their children off to catch the school bus in the morning, they expect that the kids will arrive safely at school and then safely back at home later that day. If a problem would ever occur, parents would most likely assume that it would happen once their children were on the bus, not while they were standing on a street corner waiting for the bus. However, an accident can happen anytime and anywhere, including on a street corner. An example of this can be seen in an incident that happened recently in Aspen Hill.

One dead in three-vehicle crash on freeway

Most people in Maryland have at some time or another passed by a recent accident on the freeway or another road. Fortunately, many cases like this seem to involve only damage to vehicles and no immediate or evident harm to the people in them. However, this does not mean that great care is not still important when dealing with these crashes.

Drunk driving death statistics in Maryland

Any person in Maryland who has been involved in an accident caused by a drunk driver knows how traumatic these experiences can be. When a loved one's life is taken due to the negligent decisions of an impaired driver, the challenges mount further. Despite widespread public awareness that driving after consuming alcohol is dangerous, too many people continue to do just this.

Drunk driving continues to plague Maryland

It would seem impossible that anyone in Maryland could say they have never heard about how dangerous it is to drive a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol. Drunk driving has received so much press and public attention over the last several decades. Sadly, this press and attention may not seem to be sufficient as enough drivers continue to make the reckless choice to get behind the wheel when they are drunk. As a result, too many innocent people are injured or killed every year.

How safe are Maryland's roads?

As you get in your car every day and drive to or from work, shuttle your kids, do errands and more you may likely pass by accidents from time to time. You might even see an accident happen. With any luck you are not involved in a crash but know that the possibility of being in a motor vehicle accident does always exist. Many things like tougher laws and improved safety features in vehicles have attempted to reduce or ideally eliminate crashes yet they still happen.

Myersville rollover accident kills one, injures two others

While those who choose to ride as passengers in vehicles in Bowie may not realize it, they may be inadvertently placing a great deal of trust in said vehicles' drivers. Often, that trust may be considered to be rarely misplaced given that passengers typically know those who are driving them. However, they may not fully appreciate how much their drivers' actions can end up effecting them. If such actions result in car accidents, then those same passengers might be left in the unenviable position of seeking compensation from those same acquaintances they were so willing to trust. While no one may want to have to make such a choice, circumstances may often mandate it.
