Dashcam footage shows the scene of a horrific accident that happened in the Tribeca area of Manhattan in New York City, resulting in damage to multiple vehicles, several injuries, a life lost and a Maryland man in jail facing criminal charges.
The accident happened on a Saturday morning at the end of December. A 37-year-old man from Maryland lost control of his vehicle and went careening through an intersection. In total, he hit five other vehicles; two parked cars along with three on the road. The driver of one of the vehicles he struck was a 57-year-old woman who succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The two other people injured in the crash should recover, though their current conditions are not known.
Authorities are still conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash. It is unclear at this time what caused the man’s vehicle to catch on fire or why he lost control. Law enforcement took both the man and his dog, a Rottweiler that was in the vehicle with him, into custody after a failed attempt on the man’s part to escape the authorities. He faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident as well as manslaughter. His vehicle sustained extensive damage to the front end, as seen in another video taken in the aftermath of the crash. It is not known why he had traveled from Maryland to New York or whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
